Residencies

Sona Research offers residencies at our San Francisco laboratory and with our research partners in science museums, universities, cultural institutions and other research organizations. Residencies are offered to outstanding interaction designers, media artists, fine artists, video and filmmakers who produce work in line with our mission of socially beneficial applications of interactive media and technology.

Research fellowships

Sona Research supports research fellowships in Human-Computer Interaction, Interactive Media, Immersive and Interactive Art and related fields. Research opportunities for Masters’ and PhD students and post-docs are generally tied to specific grant-funded projects such as fundamental and applied research leading to peer-reviewed scientific publications and dissemination of research results to lay, scientific and cultural audiences.

Job Opportunities

Research Director

We are seeking a talented individual to oversee the day-to-day operations of Sona Research, to write grants and proposals, to manage current research projects and to attend meetings and events as our representative. You will play a large and important role establishing our culture and managing and representing the laboratory’s activities.

The ideal candidate has a Phd. in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Media, Psychology or a related field. You must have a proven ability to write grant applications and to communicate extremely well in writing, by phone and in person. You must be very comfortable establishing and expanding working relationships solely by telephone. You should have demonstrated ability in Interactive Media theory and practice.
